Book Presentation A Summer That Lasted Ten Years – The Adventure of Scuderia DIEMME by Enrico Borghi and Marco Balbi

This book recounts the emotions of an unrepeatable decade — the revolutionary, wild, and psychedelic 1970s — when a group of young men from Lugo set out to achieve success not only in national racing but also in world championships. These emotions resurface through the voices of the main characters, special guests (including Gian Carlo Minardi and “Dr. Costa”), and others who share and explain the unique significance of this remarkable adventure.

The story of Scuderia Diemme/Ad Maiora is typical of this region — driven by passion but also ambition, built through hard work and dedication, yet enriched by friendship, fun, and the ability to face and solve problems with both heart and mind.

The journey of Scuderia Diemme/Ad Maiora stands out even today for its unique features — the way it began, how it evolved, the personalities involved, and even the way it all came to an end.

It was Rino Melandri, a wine entrepreneur from Lugo, who gave birth to the team and eventually brought it to a close, just as the Lugo boys were reaching their peak. That moment — when this group, who described themselves as “non-professional” but thought and acted like professionals — realized that after a decade of emotional highs, hard work, setbacks, and battles, nothing would ever be quite as beautiful again. Because the 1980s had arrived — the era of professionalism in sport — and they knew the feeling would never be the same.

So, the moral of the story is a lesson in life: sometimes returning to normality, after experiencing greatness, is not a defeat — but rather an extraordinary way to remain friends forever, to preserve joyful memories, and to never stop dreaming.
